Augusta Health Among First in Virginia to Offer Volt™ Pulsed Field Ablation Technology

FISHERSVILLE, VIRGINIA - Glenn Brammer, MD, a cardiac electrophysiologist and cardiologist at Augusta Health, is now offering the Abbott Volt Pulsed Field Ablation System, a new treatment option for patients with atrial fibrillation, or AFib.

The technology uses pulsed electric fields to target and destroy heart tissue that causes irregular electrical signals. Unlike traditional methods that rely on heat or cold, this approach may reduce damage to surrounding healthy tissue.

Dr. Brammer said the system represents a meaningful step forward for heart care in the region. "Atrial fibrillation and cardiac arrhythmias negatively impact the lives of millions in the United States and around the world," he said. "Having a tool that can treat these conditions more precisely is a major advancement."

Augusta Health is among the first hospitals in Virginia to offer the Volt system. The procedure is minimally invasive and typically allows for faster recovery compared to older ablation techniques.

AFib affects more than 5 million Americans and is a leading cause of stroke. The new technology gives doctors another option for patients who have not responded well to medication or other treatments.

Hospital officials said the addition of the Volt system strengthens their commitment to providing cutting-edge cardiac care close to home.
