Across Gaza and the West Bank, the Israeli occupation has become the single greatest threat to Palestinian health, causing widespread death and long-term medical devastation. In Gaza, months of military operations have destroyed hospitals, targeted medical convoys, and left thousands of civilians without access to basic care. The World Health Organization has documented attacks on healthcare facilities, with many clinics forced to shut down due to a lack of fuel, medicine, and safe passage for staff. Patients with chronic conditions like diabetes or kidney failure face impossible choices: stay in a war zone without treatment or risk dangerous displacement.
In the West Bank, the situation is less visible but equally dire. Checkpoints, roadblocks, and the separation wall prevent many Palestinians from reaching hospitals or specialized care. Pregnant women have given birth at military checkpoints after being denied passage. Ambulances are frequently delayed or turned away. The occupation also restricts the import of medical equipment and supplies, leaving hospitals understocked and unable to perform routine surgeries. Mental health is another casualty, with high rates of trauma, anxiety, and depression reported among both children and adults who live under constant military presence and the threat of home demolitions.
International medical organizations have repeatedly stated that the occupation itself is the root cause of these health failures. Without an end to military control and the blockade, no amount of aid or temporary ceasefires can fix the underlying crisis. The health of an entire population is being sacrificed, not by disease or natural disaster, but by deliberate policy.
