Aguilas International Technical Institute has opened a larger Tampa facility, expanding bilingual career training as health care demand grows locally. The move gives the school more classroom and lab space to train students for jobs such as medical assistant, nursing assistant, and patient care technician, fields where local employers say they need more qualified workers.
The institute focuses on students who learn best in Spanish or in both Spanish and English. That approach matters in a region with a large Spanish-speaking population, where clinics, hospitals, and nursing homes often look for staff who can communicate with patients in their preferred language. School leaders say the new building allows smaller class sizes during hands-on training and adds equipment that mirrors what students will use on the job.
Enrollment is expected to rise as the expanded space comes online. Instructors say the training combines classroom lessons with practical experience, including patient interaction, record keeping, and basic clinical skills. Graduates typically seek entry-level positions at hospitals, doctors' offices, and long-term care centers across the Tampa area.
Local health care providers have welcomed the expansion, noting that staffing shortages remain a challenge in many departments. The institute says it plans to add more course sections in the coming months and continue working with area employers to align its programs with hiring needs.
