Jacksonville event offering free health and wellness services is ‘a big help’ for local patients struggling financially

Hundreds of Jacksonville residents lined up at the Prime Osborn Convention Center on Saturday for a free health and wellness event that organizers say is a lifeline for those struggling with medical costs. Ascension St. Vincent's hosted its annual Medical Mission at Home, offering a wide range of services to uninsured and underinsured community members.

The event provided everything from basic checkups and blood pressure screenings to dental exams, vision tests, and mental health resources. Patients also had access to prescription assistance and referrals for follow-up care. For many attendees, the cost of a routine doctor's visit or a pair of glasses is simply out of reach, making these services essential.

"It's a big help," said one patient who arrived early to secure a spot. "Without this, I would just have to wait and hope nothing gets worse."

Volunteers included doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and support staff who donated their time. Organizers noted that the goal is not just to treat immediate issues but to connect people with ongoing care options. The event also offered information on health insurance enrollment and local clinics that provide sliding-scale fees.

Ascension St. Vincent's has hosted the Medical Mission at Home for several years, targeting neighborhoods where access to healthcare is limited. The event continues to draw large crowds, reflecting the ongoing need for affordable medical services in the area.
