The latest victim brings the total number of people sickened by the bacterial illness to 82, with cases continuing to emerge across multiple boroughs.

Investigators have now discovered live Legionella bacteria in the water systems of dozens of buildings throughout the city. The bacteria, which causes a severe form of pneumonia, thrives in stagnant warm water and can spread through aerosolized droplets from cooling towers, showers, and faucets.
