In a recent panel discussion focused on the pressing issue of gun violence and firearm injuries, community leaders and experts gathered to share insights and experiences. Teresa Negron, executive director of YouTurn, a nonprofit dedicated to violence intervention, highlighted the often-overlooked victims of gun violence. "There are people who hear gunshots happen often. What I think we lose is that the people that live in that area are also victimized," she stated, emphasizing the pervasive impact of violence on communities.
Joining Negron were other panelists, including Stewart Giddings, assistant director of YouTurn, Omaha police Deputy Chief Sherie Thomas, and therapist Chelsea Hunter from CHI Behavioral Health. The discussion aimed to raise awareness about the multifaceted nature of gun violence and the importance of community support and intervention. The panelists shared their perspectives on strategies to reduce violence and promote healing within affected neighborhoods, underscoring the need for collaborative efforts to address this critical issue.
