President Donald Trump is scheduled to visit Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on Tuesday, May 26, for his third planned health examination in just over a year. The visit is part of what the White House describes as a routine annual physical, though the frequency of these checkups has drawn attention.
The president's last full physical was in February 2019, but he has since made two additional trips to the military hospital. In November 2019, he went for what officials called a "quick exam" and lab work. Another visit occurred in April 2020, during the early months of the coronavirus pandemic. White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said Tuesday's appointment is a continuation of the president's regular health maintenance, noting that he remains in excellent health.
Dr. Sean Conley, the president's physician, will oversee the examination. The White House has not released a detailed schedule for the visit, but officials expect a brief summary of the president's condition afterward. Trump, who is 73 years old, has often touted his health and energy on the campaign trail. Critics and some health experts have questioned why a president who claims to be in peak condition needs such frequent checkups, while supporters point to the importance of transparency and preventive care.
The visit comes as the nation continues to grapple with the COVID-19 crisis, and as Trump prepares for the final stretch of his reelection campaign. No major health concerns have been reported, and the White House insists the checkup is purely precautionary.
