A new cohort of seven students and trainees has been chosen for the 2026-2027 Dhablania and Kim Family Global Medicine and Health Fellowships. The awards come through the Department of Population and Public Health Sciences at the Keck School of Medicine of USC.
Funding from the Dhablania and Kim Family allows this year's group to take on research and clinical work in five countries: India, Cambodia, South Korea, Peru, and Uganda. Each fellow will spend time learning from local communities while tackling real-world health challenges.
The program emphasizes cross-cultural exchange. Fellows will not only contribute to ongoing projects but also gain direct exposure to how healthcare systems operate in different parts of the world. For many, this is a chance to see how factors like poverty, infrastructure, and local customs shape medical outcomes.
Past fellows have worked on issues ranging from infectious disease control to maternal health. The new cohort is expected to continue that tradition, bringing back insights that can inform public health practice in the United States and beyond.
The fellowship aims to build a generation of health professionals who understand global medicine from the ground up. By working alongside local providers and researchers, these students will develop skills that go beyond what any classroom can offer.
